BBC Red Nose Day Animation

Image from BBC Red Nose Day Project

Fruit Tree: This image has been taken from my BBC Red Nose Day Animation. This was a project set for students by Norwich School of Art and Design and the BBC. We had to create a 10 second sting to promote the day. My animation was shown on BBC Look East. I used watercolour and a collage style animation using Photoshop and After Effects. It was based on the idea of red noses growing on trees, and dome shaped ornaments which when shaken create a snow storm inside.

Sonic Postcard Project: Sound Only

This is my Sonic Postcard Project. We had to pick a painting and animate and add sound to it. I have only included the sound here. All the sounds are my own, recorded and digitally manipulated using Soundtrack Pro.

Puppet Walk Project: Photograph of Wall

The project was to design a puppet character and get it to walk. I originally got my idea for a Witch puppet character from this Photograph which I took of a wall. I saw an image of what looked like a witch, and decided my character had escaped from a wall. The puppet I designed was based on this idea and incorporated a lot of texture and pattern using watercolour, fabrics, and latex experiments.

Puppet Walk: Witch

This animation was created using stop motion footage. This was the first time I had used a video camera to do stop motion as I usually use a digital camera which produces better quality images. The witch character idea came from a photograph I had taken of a wall. The puppet has a wood and wire armature. I wanted the puppet to have a lot of texture and pattern. I used watercolour patterns, which I printed on fabric for the textiles on the puppet. I experimented with latex, ink and wood shavings for the arms and hands. The head and hat were made out of a special clay which cracked.

I spent a long time making this puppet and experimenting. The feet were made of wood and magnets. Unfortunately the magnets did not work very well so I was quite disappointed with the final animation but was pleased with the puppet. I decided to put video footage over the top to create an atmosphere. The sound is my voice, digitally manipulated.

Dynamics: Lacie Man Walk

This is the second animation I created. I decided to do a walk cycle. This is my hard drive which has come to life and is walking across my desk. I try to do something different each time I do an animation and decided to experiment with drawn and collage style. This time I did a more cartoon style animation and inked my drawings experimenting with vector graphics. The beginning of the walk is drawn animation and then coloured in Toon Boom. The moving background is drawn in Illustrator. This project was about Dynamics.

Teddy Bear Animation

This was the first animation I created in the second year. Having missed the first year of the course (I entered the 2nd year as I had a HND) I had never done drawn animation before so this was quite a challenge. This is the animation I created of a teddy bear having difficulty with the remote control. I created a sketchy style drawn animation, so the teddy appears to continuously move. This project was about expressions.
